PANCAKE BREAKFAST
There will be a pancake breakfast. The menu will be advertised in the Rural Youth Fair flyer which will be sent to 4-H families in August.
BARN COMPETITION
Barn space will be assigned so please check for signs to see where you club’s space is located. Judges will walk through and judge the barn area several times on Saturday, September 12. The criteria for the judging is: stall cards (10); backdrop (10); club banner or club name (10); Rural Youth Fair theme incorporated into display (20); cleanliness/tidiness (10); feed and storage areas (10); animals (10); courtesy (10); appearance of 4-H’ers (10).
Members are strongly encouraged to participate in the design and set-up of their club’s barn display.
FLOWER ARRANGING COMPETITION
This competition will be held on Saturday, September 12 in two groups. The first group will be from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and the second group from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
The competition will not be judged.
COOKIE JUDGING
4-H members are invited to try their hand at judging a class of cookies. A cookie pizza will be awarded to the top judge of this class.
LAWN TRACTOR DRIVING COMPETITION
1. Must be a 4-H member to enter.
2. 4-H members 9 years of age and older are eligible to participate.
3. All contestants must sign a score sheet before participating in the competition.
4. Judging of the competition will be based on driving skills and use of safety procedures. The only time factor to be taken into consideration is if contestants are slowing down the progress of the event by taking too long. The maximum time for the course will be set beforehand by officials. Disqualification will not result from going over the time limit but when time expires, contestant must immediately return to the starting point. Contestants will then be given a score on the parts of the course they completed before time was called.
5. Excessive sped during the competition will result in immediate disqualification. The judge’s decision is final.
6. There will be 3 minutes for each participant to familiarize him/herself with the lawn tractor before beginning the competition.
7. The judge will ask the driver basic operating procedures and safety questions before beginning the competition. If the driver is unable to answer these questions to the judge’s satisfaction, he/she will be disqualified.
8. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 competitors.
ROYAL SELECTION CLASSES
The classes to select the beef and dairy animals to compete at the 2008 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto in November will be held in the covered ring. Please note that the time on the agenda in the Rural Youth Fair daybook and on the display boards is approximate time. Actual time will depend on time regular beef and dairy classes finish.
